As a blogger, one of the most important things you need to focus on is building your email list. It is the backbone of your business.I waited far too long to focus on building my email list for this website. I had a lot of traffic coming to my site, but I wasn’t doing anything to retain these visitors. They would just read my post and then leave. Then, once I did have a subscribe box, I just sat back and waited for for people to magically want to join my email list. When I finally realized the importance of my list and the effect it had on my blog, I immediately got serious with it and switched to Convertkit. Honestly, it was one of the BEST decisions I’ve made with my blogs. When I migrated my email list I only had 3,668 subscribers, but within a few short months I was able to double the amount of subscribers that I had. There are a lot of different list-building techniques and strategies that you can try out for your blog. The key is focusing on what will bring in the right people. You don’t want to build a list of people who aren’t interested in what you have to offer on your blog. Today, I am sharing 3 strategies that I used that made a big impact. Related post: How I Increased My Email List by 45k in 1 Year

3 Strategies to Increase Your Email List Today

#1 - Edit popular posts with opt-ins

Adding multiple opt-ins to my blog was one of the first strategies I implemented. An opt-in is a supplemental download that you can create for your reader in exchange for their email address. It is the perfect way to provide your audience with further learning or action steps to go along with a blog post. You need to create an opt-in that is related to specific blog posts you have on your website. Here are some examples:

  • Case study

  • Free email course

  • Workbooks

  • Video training

  • Challenge

  • PDF

I was already creating free worksheets and printables for my website so this was an easy place for me to get started. The first thing I did was look at my most popular blog posts (check your Google Analytics stats) to see which ones I could create some kind of supplemental material for. Here are a few examples of opt-in worksheets I created for this site:

Just from implementing this strategy alone, I was able to double the amount of daily subscribers I was getting. Click here to read each of the steps I did in this process.

#2 - Multiple Opt-in Forms that make it EASY to sign up

Another strategy that I implemented that had a big impact was adding multiple opt-in forms to my website. In the past, I had only had 1 opt-in form that said ‘subscribe here’ in my sidebar and it definitely wasn’t a focal point of my blog. I realized that I needed to make it as easy as possible for people to subscribe to my emails list. I then created an opt-in form and added it to my header, footer, at the bottom of blog posts and in various other spot on my site. It is important that you take the time to optimize your site for conversions. Make sure that your subscribe box is prominent and you are giving people a reason to sign up. They need to have some kind of incentive.

#3 - Exclusive resource library

The third strategy that I want to share with you to help you increase your email list is to create an exclusive resource library for your subscribers. I never realized how great this would actually be. Not only do my subscribers get access to all of my free worksheets and printables in one place but it is an awesome incentive to offer to get people to subscribe.  Now, whenever I add any new opt-in I can just add it to my resource library so that all of my subscribers have access to the new content. This is the opt-in form that I have in the header of each of the pages on my blog. This is one of the first things someone sees when they click on my site and since it provides so many awesome downloads I get a lot of new subscribers through it.You can check out How I Grew My Email List by 45K in 1 Year to see what else I did to increase my email list. What strategies are you currently using to increase your email list?
