How To Create A Budget
Budgeting?!? I receive a lot of questions about creating a budget and where to start. A budget is a hard issue to overcome. There are many articles out there with different methods and opinions, but what is most important is you stick to the budget you create. Everyone's situation is different so it is hard to say you should spend 'x' amount of money each month on groceries, but it is vital to formulate an idea of an amount to help gain awareness of your finances.I have found this great article on How To Make A Budget Plan from personal finance whiz. This article provides easy steps that you can follow and apply to your income and lifestyle to formulate your own personal budget! I love that this article includes a percentage of your income for charity! Couponing has helped me to increase the amount that I can donate and provide to charities. Since I am able to get items for FREE I love that I can share that with others and donate it! Its a great feeling being able to pay it forward. You also want to focus on having a place in your budget for your savings account. Often times people overlook this vital category. If you are allotting all of your funds elsewhere then you may not have any money leftover to build your savings account.
Two methods of creating your budget from this article:
You can choose whichever method works best for you and easily create a budget that you can stick to! Budgeting allows you to spend money where you want to be spending it instead of just paying bills. You will need to be committed but it will pay off in the long-run!Here are some of my own personal budgeting tips:
Use cash - using only cash can really help you to prevent overspending because once the money is gone it is GONE. You cannot charge something that you wanted to buy, you will have to wait. Using cash is a hard method to figure out but once you do you will be very happy with the results. This is one that I really struggle with and will be focusing on this year.
Shop smart - when I say shop smart I mean that you need to plan a grocery list and try to be strategic with your shopping. This may mean shopping sales, using coupons, buying in bulk or any other method that will help you to save money.
Track all of your expenses - having a budget in place will allow you to see exactly where you are spending your money and how you can cutback. You may not realize the amount of money that you are using on fast food or entertainment each month. A budget will help you to see where the majority of your money is going and you will learn ways to save that fit your lifestyle.
If you plan ahead and know that you have a budget it will help prevent those impulse purchases. After a few months you will notice that your budget may increase because of the money you are able to save. Let us know some key parts of your budget.
