Family Game Night - Favorite Board Games for Toddlers
Having a family game night is a great way to bond as a family and spend quality time away from the rush of daily life. Sometimes it is easy to get caught up in daily life that you forget to take some extra time as a family together. To be sure that your game night is fun for everyone involved, here are some ideas and tips to be sure that the night is not a chore. The typical game night can always be a success as long as the games are carefully chosen to the interest and ability of all involved. A “typical” game night will involve age appropriate games. Since our boys are young we make sure that the games we have to play are something that would interest them.
**I recently updated this list to include some of our NEW favorite games to play!**
Our Family Game Night Favorites:
Pop The Pig - This is one of my boys all the FAVORITE games to play. We got it last year and still play it a few times a week. The ages for this game says 3-6 year old, but it is honestly fun for the whole family. To tell you the truth, I LOVE this game too!!Hungry Hungry Hippos - This game is fun for everyone, and kids can easily learn how to play. Recommended age 6 months - 8 years old.Hi Ho Cherry-O - We like this game a lot because it is a nice way to help teach your kids how to count while having fun. Recommended age 36 months - 6 years old.Barbecue Party Game - This is another one of our newer games that my kids just cannot get enough of. They call it the "tricky" game. This is for 4 years old and up.Don't Spill the Beans - Our family always enjoys this game. My boys think it is hilarious when someone spills the beans! Recommended age 36 months- 6 years old.
Snacks and drinks are a must as well as disconnecting from any non-game related electronics. If you want to get more creative try a themed game night and make all the food, drink and decorations in the theme of the game that is to be played. Make sure that all family members have a say in what the game, theme and food will be for each game night. My boys love decorating for a party so they get really excited to pick a theme for family game night. If game night is getting stale try craft or activity nights. The main purpose of these types of nights is to bring family members together, disconnect from daily stressors and make memories that will last a lifetime. These are the traditions that you hope your kids will carry on to their own families one day so make it fun and ensure that it grows as your family grows in both interests and size. A little extra effort will create a lot of fun for you and your family anytime of the year!Does your family do a family game night, please share in the comments below.
