The questions below were answered by Laila, a reader of Frugal Fanatic. She is a 24 year old Law student who lives in Geneva, Switzerland.
1. What is your work from home job and how did you get started? My job from home is tutoring and i started when i was 16 in high school. 2. Why did you decide on this position?I was looking for a job that could fit into my school schedule, like lunch time or after school and there were flyers about an association that was looking for tutors so I applied. 3. Is this job full-time, or part time? How many hours a week would you say you spend working? It's a part time job. I spend about 2-5 hours a week working. 4. How do you find time to work with your other everyday obligations?Every new school year I wait till I have my schedule and decide if I want to do other things like sports, or dance, then I look when I am available and how many hours I can work. Then I will look for students.Everything is planned in advance. I am quite flexible with my students if they need to cancel a lesson because I know that if someday I have an emergency I can cancel too. Also, so that they do not look for another tutor. 5. What is your favorite part about working from home?I can really organize my time as I want too. If I want to I can put all my working hours on Monday or Tuesday and then I will have the rest of the week for me. Also, you can always adapt your schedule according to everything else you have to do : exams, doctor appointments, holidays...parents are quite flexible if you are too whenever they need. 6. Did you need any training or experience for this position? Any particular qualifications? In Switzerland you only need to be at least 16 and in your second year of high school. 7. What affect does your income have on you and/or your family?I am paid 30 Swiss Francs (around $30) for 1 hour, so I make around $500 a month. It gives me a lot of independence so I can provide for whatever I need and I still manage to put money aside and help my sister when the month is too long at the end of her paycheck. 8. Would you recommend this position for someone who is looking for a work at home job?Yes, it's a really easy job that pays well in my opinion. I had students from 6 years old to 18 and my favorite ones are primary students. When you help them learning how to read and how to write you can see how useful you are in their lives. Plus, if things went well between you and the family they will call you back at the beginning of next year, so you don't have to look for new student. 9. Any advice for other people who are looking to get started with this positionThey should start by looking for local associations or flyers in there school to see if someone is looking for a tutor. Then, check their connections, or even friends with kids who need help with school. I am always asking my parents if they know if one of their friends is looking for someone to help their kids with homework. Thanks Laila!
