Work From Home: Graphic Designer

Since I have only done a few work from home positions I wanted to hear from other people and how they make an income working from home so that I could share the information with all of you. The questions below were answered by my brother, JD Havrilla. He has a degree in graphic design, but is currently only doing side jobs. JD does amazing work and currently does a lot of the graphics and design work for both of my blogs. He also created the covers for my two books. You can check out his graphic design site.
Work From Home as a Graphic Designer:
1. What is your work from home job and how did you get started?
I am a freelance Graphic Designer, and I started taking on work when I was finishing up school.
2. Why did you decide on this position?
I have a passion for design, and I love to be creative.
3. Is this job full-time, or part time? How many hours a week would you say you spend working?
Part-time. Around 20-30 hours per week depending on the jobs that I have.
4. How do you find time to work with your other everyday obligations?
I make a schedule that has time set aside for me to do my work. I do not currently have a family, so outside of my regular job this is my next priority.
5. What is your favorite part about working from home?
I dictate the majority of my day. I have the freedom to make my own schedule. If I do not have extra time than I will not take on a new client. Or, if I am saving to make a purchase I will try to take on extra work to help me pay for it.
6. Did you need any training or experience for this position? Any particular qualifications?
Yes, I obtained a degree in Graphic and Web Design.
7. What affect does your income have on you and/or your family?
A very positive one. My income plays a major part. It is nice to know that I can do more work to earn more money. Plus, I do not even have to leave my house.
8. Would you recommend this position for someone who is looking for a work at home job?
Yes.
9. Any advice for other people who are looking to get started with this position
Know your worth and charge accordingly. It is hard when you are first starting out because you want to build your portfolio, but you also need to keep in mind that you are skilled and should be paid accordingly. You may need to accept jobs that offer less money, but you can increase your prices as you get more experience.
